Buttermilk Powder
Buttermilk powder is a great addition to soap making:
- Skin Softening & Conditioning: Buttermilk contains natural fats and lactic acid, which help moisturize and soften the skin, making it especially great for dry or sensitive skin.
- Natural Lactic Acid (Gentle Exfoliation): Lactic acid in buttermilk provides mild exfoliation, helping to slough off dead skin cells and promote a brighter complexion.
- Creamy Lather: The fats and proteins in buttermilk contribute to a rich, creamy, and luxurious lather in your soap.
- Soothing Properties: It can help calm irritated or inflamed skin due to its gentle, nourishing properties.
- Rich in Nutrients: Buttermilk is full of vitamins and minerals like calcium, potassium, and B vitamins, which can be beneficial to skin health.
In cold process soap, it’s best to add buttermilk powder at trace or mix it with a bit of your oils before blending it in to avoid scorching the milk proteins (which can happen if added directly to lye water).
